A couple years ago, I came across some free Scripture writing plans as another way to fix my eyes on what is good. I printed one addressing a biblical theme that I desperately needed to linger in, taped it into a composition notebook, and started copying Scripture. (Here is the Scripture writing blog post and some Scripture writing plans that got me started.)
This practice has helped me through some rough spots when it was hard to focus on a bigger study plan.
Recently, I was in the middle of a season where a wave anxiety was lapping at my feet every morning, the levels rising higher as the days wore on. I printed a plan to copy verses about peace. I wrote them so much that when I got caught in an actual storm, I was able to drive through darkness, lightning, and street flooding while reciting (crying) passages about peace and made it through. Without even realizing it, I had memorized the passages just from copying them.
You can get started just as quickly with committing Scripture to your mind in any spare moment by simply writing it out.
Paper
You can use the back of your grocery list, your kid’s discarded artwork, or a classy moleskin journal. Personally, I use a composition notebook so it’s all in one place. Use what you have!
Passage
Choose a plan or a passage you want to linger on. Look it up in your Bible. Write it several times if you can. If you have spare time, write a prayer or a reflection. It doesn’t need to be pretty!
Prayer
Even if you don’t have time to write out a prayer, commit your thoughts to prayer in response throughout the day. Pray for others and encourage them with the Scripture you’re focusing on.
